We’re thrilled to share that India has received the prestigious ICAO Council President Certificate for its remarkable progress in establishing an effective aviation safety oversight system. This recognition is a testament to India’s commitment to implementing ICAO’s Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) and enhancing aviation safety.
What Does This Achievement Mean?
The ICAO Council President Certificate is awarded to nations that demonstrate significant improvement in aviation safety oversight. India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) achieved an impressive Effective Implementation (EI) score of 85.65% in an ICAO audit conducted in November 2022. This remarkable improvement has catapulted India into the list of the world’s top 50 countries in aviation safety oversight, ranking 48th globally.
Benefits for Indian Carriers
This improved safety ranking is expected to ease the path for Indian carriers to expand internationally. With Air India and IndiGo announcing aggressive global expansion plans, the higher ranking will help reduce scrutiny of Indian aircraft at overseas airports. This development is a significant step forward for India’s aviation industry, and we look forward to seeing the impact it will have on the country’s growing aviation sector.
A Step in the Right Direction
India’s achievement is a notable example of the country’s commitment to enhancing aviation safety and implementing international standards. We congratulate the DGCA and the Indian aviation industry on this remarkable achievement and look forward to continued growth and progress in the years to come.
